I'm a bit late recapping last week. I usually write up these posts on weekends, but this weekend I didn't end up doing any blogging. I've been so sick for two weeks, and this was the first weekend I was feeling up to doing some things around the house. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time cleaning and being very productive, rather than blogging. It feels good to get so much done!
Pre-K
M's theme last week was nutrition, so they learned about the different food groups. They used the new MyPlate instead of the old Food Pyramid. It's an interesting concept since it's more visual ~ you can really see how much of each food group should be on your plate. We talked throughout the week about what sorts of food groups were on our plates, but we didn't end up doing a lot with the theme at home.
I had a parent-teacher conference with M's teacher this week and it went well. They had done an assessment that is in line with what they do on the first day of kindergarten. She was fine on everything, so that was good. She spent several hours this weekend working on a book that she decided to make. I'm not sure where she got the idea, but she did a great job of it. I'm going to write up a full post about it this week so I can share it. She sat on the floor of the playroom with markers and stickers and worked and worked all by herself. I couldn't believe her focus on it.
2nd Grade
One of the fun projects we did this past week was make crayons. C had seen some sort of crayon maker in a catalog while looking for Christmas gift ideas, and I mentioned that we could make our own. So I got out the muffin tin and we made some new crayons! It was fun. I hadn't done it before. I think if we do it again, I'll have them mix the colors differently to make the final crayons a bit more fun to color with. But overall, we had a good time.
Home
As I mentioned, I was still recovering this week from being so sick. But by the weekend, I finally felt better. There was tons of activity around our house this week, though. We had the exterior of the house painted, and the porch and deck stained as well. So the painters were here just about every day.
We also finally splurged and bought a new keyboard. We've been wanting C to start piano lessons, but our old keyboard was pretty old. So we got a Yamaha Arius YDP-181, and set it all up. I'm excited to get him started with lessons, and my husband is excited to have a nice-sounding keyboard to play. Now I need to learn how to play as well...

I am glad you are feeling better! Can't wait to see M's book!
ReplyDeleteThat is cool that M spent hours on her book! Looking forward to that post =)
ReplyDeleteWE've been tossing around the idea of a new keyboard and lessons too. I think music is such an important thing to learn about, I just do not have fond memories of practicing the piano when growing up. Please let us know how it goes!
