Our Week in Review

We've had a nice week. I hope you have too. The kids were both in school all week, which was nice. This coming week, they'll only be in school for two days, so things will be a bit hectic, I'm sure. But last week was a typical week with school and work.

Pre-K
M's theme was relatives, but I didn't realize this until the end of the week. You see, they were also learning about different coins for math, and that's what she fixated on for the week. She was so excited to learn about pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters. I'm not sure the amounts of each have really sunk in. She definitely got the pennies and nickles, and perhaps the dimes. But she kept saying quarters were worth 50 cents! Oh well. I'm sure she'll get it eventually!

Outside of school, she was very interested in doing dot-to-dots this week. I'm not sure what prompted that, but she eventually got out our dot-to-dot book that is full of dot-to-dots that go up to 25. She did several throughout the week, and then spent time coloring them in. She also continued to amaze me with her reading abilities. Her dance teacher gave her a Thanksgiving word find and she read the words to me on our way home from class yesterday: Thanksgiving, harvest, feast, pumpkin, turkey and November were some of the words she was able to read without any help. The only word she couldn't read was Pilgrim, and that's because she didn't know what a pilgrim was. That prompted a very simple explanation of who the pilgrims were. We'll talk more about that this week.

2nd Grade
C had a good week at school, but I have to admit I don't always know what it is he's working on at school. I do know his words for this week were words that end with ck and ch. And he had math homework that dealt with adding numbers that total more than 100. But I'm not sure what else he's working on at the moment. He is currently reading a book called The Chalk Box Kid by Clyde Robert Bulla with his reading group. And he's continuing to read through the Secrets of Droon series at home. He only has about 10 more books to read in the series, and we picked up six of them at the library today.

Home
Things have been relatively calm at home this week, which is nice. Work hasn't been too crazy for me and we didn't have much going on in the evenings, beside my book club meeting on Tuesday night. I'm in the process of trying to find a piano teacher for C. I had a recommendation from some friends but the teacher isn't available when we need her. So I'm going to look into a local music school this week.

On the blog last week, I shared M's book that she put together the week before. I didn't have a lot of time for blogging so I hope to have more time this coming week since I'm only working 2 1/2 days!

  1. M is learning so much in her preschool! Our school has a full Thanksgiving break, but, luckily, YMCA is open for 3 days. Looks like both kiddos continue to do really well in school.
